Why do two build sheets show different codes for similar equipment?

A clear photo of the build label, VIN report, and the relevant component would help. Do not post the full VIN publicly; the last eight characters are normally enough for a parts-counter discussion.

For a retrofit, check the modules, wiring connectors, software configuration, and compatible part numbers first. Installing the visible component alone may not make the feature operational.

On these vehicles, similar descriptions can use different codes because of supplier changes or package combinations. The code itself is useful, but the VIN-specific parts catalog is better before ordering anything.

I would start by checking the original build sheet and then compare the physical equipment on the vehicle. A sales or option code confirms the factory record, but it does not prove that every original component is still installed.

My experience has been positive, but the benefit depends on how the vehicle is used. I would treat 5B6 as confirmation of the configuration, then evaluate whether that equipment matters for your driving.

I have seen this on a similar Chevrolet Equinox. The basic description was correct, but one related feature was part of a separate package. I would not assume the code includes every item mentioned in marketing material.
