Two similar GMC Acadia build sheets use different codes for what appears to be the same feature. Mine uses 4A5, described as “Interior trim: Jet Black/Shale. This code identifies the factory upholstery material, color combination, or interior trim specification” Can anyone explain how these variations are normally handled?

A window sticker is helpful for customer-facing option names, while the build sheet is usually more detailed. If they disagree, the vehicle-specific dealer equipment list can help connect the sales name to 4A5.

The safest interpretation is the one tied to the exact VIN, model year, platform, and market. In general, 4A5 matches “Interior trim: Jet Black/Shale. This code identifies the factory upholstery material, color combination, or interior trim specification” but the included hardware can vary between applications.

My experience has been positive, but the benefit depends on how the vehicle is used. I would treat 4A5 as confirmation of the configuration, then evaluate whether that equipment matters for your driving.

A clear photo of the build label, VIN report, and the relevant component would help. Do not post the full VIN publicly; the last eight characters are normally enough for a parts-counter discussion.

Good point about not posting the full VIN. I will compare the part number and connector before deciding on the retrofit.
