I received a VIN equipment report for a 2024 Buick Encore GX, and 56L is listed as “Secondary exterior color: Dark Autumnwood Metallic (94). This code identifies the factory-applied secondary paint used in a two-tone or special paint scheme” Before I order parts, I want to confirm that the code reliably identifies the original configuration.

Some codes are reused across several brands, but that does not always mean the parts are identical. Model, trim, drivetrain, and production date can all matter.

If you are documenting the vehicle, save both the original wording and the readable explanation. That preserves the factory terminology while making the record understandable later.

I have seen this on a similar Buick Encore GX. The basic description was correct, but one related feature was part of a separate package. I would not assume the code includes every item mentioned in marketing material.

I would avoid buying retrofit parts until the connectors and module support are confirmed. Returning electronic or VIN-programmed components can be difficult.

The dealer should be able to pull a VIN-specific equipment or parts record. Ask them to search by VIN rather than entering only the three-character code.
